The

Gold Country Flyers

AMA Chartered Club #1796

Who We Are -

Founded in 1972, the Gold Country Flyers is a 90+ Member Club located in the heart of the Sierra Nevada Gold Country, near the city of Ione. We are dedicated to the enjoyment and advancement of building and flying radio controlled aircraft. All levels of experience are welcome. Free instruction is available to those just starting out.

Where We Fly-

Our flying field, Spiva Field, is located approximately 5 miles west of Ione, CA on Michigan Bar Road. Our field is at an elevation of 247 feet, with a paved landing strip approximately 20 feet wide, by 300 feet long and an adjacent grass strip of about the same size. The club leases approximately 5 acres from Amador County, and we have extensive and uninhibited flyover ranch land, with "right to pass"      ( recover planes!) permission. A few picnic tables and permanent shade structures are on hand, as well as a chemical toilet. The pit area features a concrete start up area, as well as concrete taxiways. Also, numerous tables and benches are set up in the pit area for our flyers convenience. A 8' by 10' concrete helicopter pad is installed.

The flying field is open to GCF members everyday. The Club also host many events throughout the year.

For those with GPS instruments, our field is at:

N 38  23  59.3

W 121  0  52.0
